History of Tag Heuer Monaco Watches

TAG Heuer has been established since 1860 by Edouard Heuer when he was at his tender age of 20 years. It gained immediate success and acquired popularity as a quality manufacturer of reliable and robust chronographs and timepieces. The growth of TAG Heuer has constantly been connected to the world of sports and motor racing cars. Heuer’s pocket chronographs were always the first choice at many sports events and were selected as the official timekeepers for various editions of the Olympic games.

Equipped with the popular Chronomatic Calibre 11, which originally was made for the TAG Heuer Carrera model, the TAG Heuer Monaco watch was first launched at the Basel fair as the world's very first watch that was waterproof as well as featured an automatic chronograph wrapped in a square case. It was introduced in two versions and came with the ref. 1133B (the blue variation) and ref. 1133G (the green variation). It featured a large case size of 40 mm x 38 mm, along with domed plastic crystal and the crown that was placed on the left to remark that the square watch did not require winding. The TAG Heuer watch was presented with two white counters that were located at its 9 and 3 o'clock which further recorded its chronograph hours and minutes respectively. The markers that are used to represent the hour were highlighted in flat silver strips with beveled edges.

The TAG Heuer watch model has acquired its name from the Monaco Formula One race which has correctly placed this TAG Heuer square watch in the world of racing cars. The very first example of TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph can be seen through its model that had the word "Chronomatic" placed right above the "Heuer" shield whereas the "Monaco" was positioned at the top of date aperture at 6 o'clock. Although, this layout was later modified for the reason that Jack Heuer settled to transfer the name "Chronomatic" to its partner Breitling, which, to date is still making use of it. The model name "Monaco" was moved right above "Heuer" and a more generic description "Automatic Chronograph" was added to its 6 o'clock position.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph has been spotted on the legends like Steve McQueen who was wearing this while filming the "Le Mans" movie that was produced in 1970 and released in the year 1971, this further made it more popular amongst the sports watches that has ever been designed.

1971 released an updated version of ref. 1133 that was equipped with the movement Calibre 12 which focused on improving the limited efficiency of the micro-rotor and increased the strength of the mainspring of the Calibre 11. A notable difference between these TAG Heuer watches was the color of its main plates, which was transformed from silver to a gold-tone and also it increased in its frequency from 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations per hour) to 3.0 Hz (21,600 vph).

The TAG Heuer Monaco has been evolving since its birth. A year later to 1971, TAG Heuer Monaco was equipped with the calibre 15 which was presented in the references 1533B (blue dial) and 1533G (grey dial) along with some of the models of Carrera and Autavia. In 1972, the brand also launched its Monaco 73633 which featured a hand-wound movement, the Valjoux 7736. This movement brought in various changes, the most evident being the replacement of the crown which was now moved back to the right side.

Now, amongst all its popular collections, one of its latest and notable timepieces is its TAG Heuer Gulf Watch. Golfing is a sport which requires to be played with not too pressure on the mind or wrist. Thus, golfers avoid wearing watches because it may hamper the accuracy with which they play. Or the strap of the watch will be too tight or too loose which will cause discomfort. Thus, the thought of wearing a watch while playing the sport completely went out of the mind of the players. However, this thought has been reignited by Tag Heuer – ever since it has introduced the professional gulf watch.

Tag Heuer made sure that this watch was one of the slimmest – to not hinder the golfers and keeping the precision of their shot in mind. It made use of grade 2 titanium in combination with stainless steel so that the super-slim professional gulf watch - a part of the Tag Heuer Monaco edition - could be brought about. The weight of the watch comes out to be 55 grams. The dial of the watch is one of the most unique things to encounter because of its square frame. The carefully picked material of the watch has created it into an ergonomic watch of the likes because of its silicon bracelet. The belt is made available in two of the most liked colors – black and white.

Tag Heuer’s work is worth appreciating and this need not be mentioned in particular owing to the standing they have in the market. The advent of the watch has been beneficial for not only the golfers but also for the people who do not like watches which need to be adjusted time and time again because of their material.
