History of Breitling Transocean Watches

It goes back to Mr Leon Breitling whose name has been so deeply engraved in the history of the watch industry – you cannot take it away even if you tried. His passion for watchmaking and chronographs is exactly what has led us to the place Breitling is in today.

After his demise, the glory of the brand was taken forward by his son Gaston Breitling. The flair with which he tackled his work had no match. Because of the hard work that he put in – he was able to introduce the marketplace with the world's first wrist chronograph in the year 1915. Soon after, he worked towards the instigation of a Breitling pocket watch which was equipped with a pusher and a crown – and he achieved this feat in the year 1923. A pusher was then seen in the 2 o clock position which was meant to start and stop the stopwatch and the crown of the Breitling watch was meant to reset the stopwatch.

Gaston met his end unexpectedly and his son was too young to take the helm of the company in his hand; thus, the company was then being managed by an external team. After some years, Willy Breitling took control of the Breitling company and recognized what is missing in the Breitling watches. He came to understand that now that a pusher for “start and stop” has been made – a separate pusher for “reset” must exist, too. All hail the glory of the Breitlings – something that is taken for granted in today’s watch world – was something nobody could even imagine back then. Now that you know about what Breitling did to make chronographs a trend – let’s finally have a look into the Breitling Transocean.

The Breitling Transocean came about in the first place to follow in the steps of the Breitling Navitimer – another watch of the brand which is acclaimed for its utility and ravishing looks. It goes without saying that the two Breitling watches were introduced only after Willy assumed leadership of the company. The newer addition was a more polished version of the Breitling Navitimer because it was not meant for the pilots but for the passengers who wanted to flaunt their dapper looks. The watch stood as amongst the most distinguished watches of the era and enjoyed the status for quite some time owing to the fact that it was waterproof, shock-resistant and drop dead gorgeous.

Well, that is not it – the Breitling Transocean saw the light of the day because the brand wanted to bring about souvenir because the decade in which the Transocean watch was released – it was known for the enormous number of transcontinental flights. Thereby, as a reminder of this golden age – there was something that was needed to exist, right? What an idea, Breitling, hands down!

Having a look back into the time, in the 1970s – Willy's health began to deteriorate and his sons they were too young to take over the watch industry and with the Quartz Crisis nobody could presume that the Swiss watch industry would survive. Thereby, Willy did what a wise man – who couldn't take any action about the current situation – would do, he sold the assets of Breitling to Ernest Schneider.

Under its new ownership, the brand in the year 2010 decided to resurrect the Breitling Transocean collection back into life. The intention of doing so was to address the needs of the customers while keeping in mind the contemporary shift of the world – thus, the Breitling chronograph watch was launched with all the more remarkable characteristics.

Since Breitling was known for its expertise in chronographs – the Breitling Transocean Chronograph took over. The dial of the watch, 43 mm, is capable of becoming a synonym of clarity because of how easily readable it is. The sophisticated details of the watch make it all the more eye-catching. Without compromising on the space and adding on to the utility, the watch displays a date window between the 4 and the 5 o clock position.

A similarly dazzling watch is the Breitling Transocean Unitime because not only are its looks appealing but it is also a watch that displays time zones of the various parts of the world without having to fumble a lot – making this Breitling watch a world time watch.

The vintage charm of this Breitling watch is just what makes it stand out from the crowd. Nonetheless, the newer additions are no less an enchantment and the Breitling watch has successfully bewitched the young generation with its features and the strong “engine” that drives it. May Breitling get stronger with each passing second.
