History of Piaget Watches

It all began in the year 1874 when Georges Edouard Piaget built his first workshop on the farm that belonged to his family. It was initially founded with the purpose of developing and manufacturing the watch movement. Established in La Côte-aux-Fées, a small village that is located in the Swiss part of the Jura, Piaget committed himself in building high-precision mechanical movements that he soon started catering to the most renowned watch brands. This workshop grew and developed at a very pace as people around the globe recognized Piaget watch movements that was then considered as a mark of seldom equaled expertise. In 1911, Timothée Piaget inherited his father's business and portrayed an equal amount of passion and requirements that were needed to fulfill the quality and success of the watch.

The emergence of the brand took place in the year 1943. It was then that Piaget started producing the luxury watches under its own name. This development can be credited to the founder’s grandsons, Gérald and Valentin Piaget. Along with this they also worked for the brand’s geographic expansion and processed its international recognition. Now because of increased demand, in 1945, Piaget constructed a new Manufacturing facility, which in the near future was recognized by the development of ultra-thin movements.

1957 brought in the revolution of Piaget ultra-thin mechanical movement which is counted amongst the company's "signatures". It was introduced with the famous ultra-thin hand-wound that was equipped with Calibre 9P and was 2 mm thick. By the year 1960, Piaget released its Calibre 12P that measured as 2.3 mm thick and was recognized as the world's thinnest self-winding automatic movement. This invention established the reputation of Piaget on the map because of the Piaget watch that was not only super thin but was also reduced in size. The Piaget brand earned a special place amongst the great Swiss watchmakers through this innovation.

In the 1960s, the company echoed its success and renewed its desire to achieve the production control and for this, they started buying various goldsmiths’ workshops that were located in Geneva. They launched a Piaget watch that features a dial which was made of hard stones and sooner they also introduced their cuff watch – these Piaget watches established themselves as the world-first as well as became a motif of precious watchmaking.

Piaget always believed in standing out in its era and along with this, it also challenged itself to uphold all the limits of watchmaking. In the year 1979, the company released its Piaget Polo watch. This was considered as a very unconventional yet stood as a classic watch that would never go out of style. It was also the very first watch that offered a bracelet which was fully integrated with the case and this reflected the type of expertise that brings together the technical refinement along with aesthetic elegance. This style of double characteristic marked and assured the brand’s unfailing success.

In the later years, the historic ultra-thin 9P and 12P mechanical movements were replaced by the new movement lines Calibres 430P and Calibres 500P. Piaget continued building on this range of movements and launched the Piaget Altiplano collection in the year 1998. This whole selection consisted of Piaget ultra thin watches and took its inspiration from the vintage 1957 watch model. In 1999, the company also released its Piaget Emperador line that of course was bound for housing the most elegant mechanical movements. All the Piaget watches are stimulated and influenced by the brand's lushful historical heritage that separates them from them from the modern watches.

Keeping up with its growing success, in 2001, Piaget founded a new manufacture de Haute Horlogerie Piaget in Plan-Les-Ouates that was located at the outskirts of Geneva. It also invested in the research and development sector. Piaget has always worked and stood up to its motto, that is "Always do better than necessary".

One of the renowned watches by the company is its Piaget Polo S which is considered to be a game changer in the business of Piaget. The Polo series is not only regarded as a mere wristwatch, but it has established its reputation as a watch bracelet.

The Piaget Polo S watch is one of the luxury sports watches introduced by the company and it is built with stainless steel beautified with a bracelet which is also made of stainless steel. The bezel of the Polo S watch contains an appealing satin finish and is also polished so as to get the essence of contrast.
