The History of Montblanc Heritage Spirit Date Automatic Watches

Literally, Montblanc International has been a provider of luxury jewelry and writing instruments since 1906. In the 1990s, the German Company felt the need of adding a distinctive elegance on its wrist-worn jewels and created Montblanc Montre S.A. in 1997. While the main company focuses on the pens and other luxury goods, the sub-branch was to focus on wristwatches exclusively.

As soon the first Montblanc watch was introduced, the Le Locle-based watchmaker won the hearts of many enthusiasts. After introducing its handcrafted Meisterstück watch at SIHH show, the brand even won recognition among top international jewelers who then furthered its recognition worldwide.

Living at the heart of Swiss watchmaking, Montblanc expanded its craftsmanship in watchmaking and at SIHH 2008 unveiled its first in-house caliber MB R100. Functional by manual winding, the 33-jewel caliber drove Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph watch which honors the French watchmaker Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec who invented chronograph technology.

Technically, caliber MB R100 revolutionized Montblanc’s watchmaking as in 2010, the brand introduced the Montblanc Metamorphosis watch at SIHH flair. Classical and ultra-elegant, the complex watch was a dedication for being able to preserve traditional Swiss watchmaking. Recently during SIHH 2019, Montblanc presented a new Metamorphosis Concept with several watch complications that are novel and created in-house. Similar to the previous Metamorphosis watches, the new timepiece is two-faced too but with a combination of the patented Exo Tourbillon and three-dimensional realistic moon. In total, the new Montblanc Star Legacy Metamorphosis watch has 718 components, including, the globe, moon, and shutters.

In 2011, Montblanc Montre S.A. made another historical achievement involving Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique. Dissimilar to other Tourbillon watches, the timepiece won the title of the first wristwatch to house a tourbillon with double cylindrical balance-springs. Although the accomplishment was tremendous, its magnitude was surpassed by that of 2015 when SIHH gleamed with 5 different classy lineups of Montblanc men watches.

Amongst the 5, the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Collection won the hearts of businessmen and professionals, particularly with the Heritage Spirit Date Automatic series. Embodied by the traditional craftsmanship and timeless makeup of Meisterstück watches, the 39mm Montblanc watch features a modish classic-inspired elegance entirely. The watch is available in several references, with reference 111875 with a rose gold case and chocolate sunburst dial.

The watch has only the 12 o’clock Roman numeral and the rest are dart-shaped indexes, paired with classic dauphine hands. For its caseback, the watch has a clear sapphire crystal displaying the installed Caliber MB 24.09. For the enthusiasts of sparkling brilliance, an ornamental version of the 2015’s Heritage Spirit Date Automatic is also available under reference 112144. On its 39mm Rose gold case, the watch has its fixed bezel set with 88 Wesselton diamonds for an ultra-golden splendor. On the inner casing, the rounded watch has a silvered sunburst dial with gold dauphine hands and classic dart indexes. Similar to its counterpart, the Gem-set Montblanc Heritage has an open caseback which showcases the watch’s caliber MB 24.09 self-winding movement.

Prior to the 2015 releases, Montblanc had introduced several models of Heritage Spirit Date Automatic earlier in 2014. Reference 111624, one of the released watches, has stainless steel rose gold casing. Inside the 39mm case, the two-tone watch has a silvery-white sunburst dial with applique indexes and dauphine hands. The watch houses caliber MB.17 self-winding movement which supports superlative precision of time and date at 3 o’clock.

On the same year, 2014, a combination of Montblanc Heritage spirit Date Automatic and Moonphase function was introduced as well. Under Reference 111620, the luxury watch has a polished stainless steel case with sapphire crystal at the front display and caseback. On its silvery-white sunburst dial, the Montblanc Heritage watch has gold-plated applique indexes and dauphine hands. The moonphase and the date feature are at 6 o’clock, thus, ensures the fans of the astronomical calendar are served optimally as well.

As a brand that truly cherish traditional artistry, Montblanc recently introduced six new watches to the Heritage lineup during SIHH 2019. Amongst the releases, all six has an architecture that combines its craftsmanship, alongside that of Minerva’s illustrious past. With the Montblanc Heritage Automatic watch, for instance, the 40mm timepiece comes with either stainless steel or rose gold case. If you are keen enough, am sure you have noted Montblanc primarily uses these two metal designs. On its salmon-colored or silvery-white dial, the watch has large Arabic numerals and dot indexes. The dial also has a chapter ring which holds calibrations for the minutes. For precision, the watch houses caliber MB 24.27 self-winding movement. For distinctive splendor, the rose gold version has a brown Sfumato alligator strap and a smoked caramel dial.
