Working as a deputy director and manager at E. Howard Watch and Clock Co. in Boston, Jones set out to combine Swiss craftsmanship and modern engineering from across countries. With the initial skeptical response from the workers, Jones was able to align everyone with his vision and started working on his timepieces in Schaffhausen.  Initially, IWC produced pocket watches that had the digital “Pallweber” display. Jones eventually moved to wristwatches for both men and women, which started getting him the recognition he deserved. With help from the eminent Swiss watchmakers, the highly efficient hydropower from the nearby River Rhine, and the modern technology, IWC became a globally recognized watch brand that is now a gold standard among watch collectors.

What Makes IWC Watches Unique?

Each collection has a unique value and style that make them different from anything out there. The Pallweber Pocket Watch was the first digital watch launched in 1884. The jumping numerals displayed minutes and hours on rotating discs. The lustrous casing and accuracy got this watch maximum popularity.

Moreover, 1939 The Portugieser came head to head with marine chronometer watches in terms of its time-telling precision. The large dial was designed with a request from the officers of the Portuguese Navy who wanted a “seriously big watch” for their wrists. The watch has 74 calibre of the men’s pocket watch inside the large 41.5mm case. The slender design of the feuille hands gives this piece a timeless quality.

Embodying the elegance and sportiness of sailing, IWC came up with the Solaris Yachts watches in partnership with Solaris. The outstanding sailing performance and exceptional design of this watch went on to create new standards in leisure sporting on yachts. The partnership between IWC and Solaris was based on their shared values that prioritize craftsmanship, design, and engineering above everything.

Furthermore, IWC has partnered with Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team and many others in the world of motorsport. The partnership is founded on precision engineering, heritage, and performance. The brand helps design race cars and has been the timing partner at Goodwood member's meeting for many years.

Among the most popular wristwatches from IWC is The Aquatimer. Unveiled in 1967, the watch became an instant success. It offered 200 meters of water-resistance and had a rotating bezel under the glass that could be operated to set the diving time using a second crown. For optimum legibility in low lighting conditions, the watch had large luminescent hands and large numerals.

Buying Second Hand IWC Watches

The watches go as high as $800,000 to $900,000 depending upon the vintage value and the type of materials used in the watch.

The exposed cogs and springs are kept to maintain the IWC standard features. The watch has a sidereal dial that is designed to calculate the position of the stars. Flipping the watch, you will see a celestial chart that shows the night sky of the location you are at.  Another one that is a favourite among collectors is the Da Vinci collection. These watches have become the face of the brand, thanks to the brilliant mechanical perpetual calendar designed by Kurt Klaus.
