A Brief History of the Vacheron Constantin

The origin of Vacheron Constantin dates back to 1755 when Jean-Marc Vacheron hired his first apprentice to lay the foundation of this renowned brand. In the year 1819, the grandson of Jean Marc, Jacques Barthelemi invited the Genevan businessman Francois Constantin to join the venture. It was Constantin who took the brand to the overseas market and ended up designing the revolutionizing pocket watch with a jumping hour display fitted in it.

Engineers at Vacheron Constantin then invented pantograph in 1839 that enhanced the overall quality and performance of the watches. It was in 1907 when the Royal Chronometer pocket watch was launched by them. This pocket watch was a big success in terms of popularity and numbers courtesy of its extreme resistance that allowed this watch to survive the environments that we once considered too hostile. This led to the development of one of the most complicated pocket watches of the 20th century, the Farouk in 1935. The Vacheron Constantin developed this timepiece with a massive number of 820 distinct parts in the movement.

But the game-changer was the chronograph 4072, the iconic movement that included 60-second, 30-minute registers, a sunburst dial, blued chronograph hands, and the combined telemeter/tachymeter scale. After this, we saw the Comes de Vache with the distinction of being the only timepiece in the market from Vacheron Constantin to have an anti-magnetic water-resistant chronograph. And since then, the brand has marked its way to serve the timepiece community with one of the most complicated wrist and pocket watches.

Top of the Line Features in the Vacheron Constantin Watches

The name Vacheron Constantin is associated with complicated watches for years. Reference 57260 is arguably the most complicated watch of this century as of now. The design of these watches has received appreciation for not only the elegance, but also the extensiveness and the daring innovations. The scroll, horn, flame and butterfly lugs were all seen for the first time in the 1940s and 50s by the Vacheron Constantin. Also, the 260 years of history are enough to flaunt this watch in a room filled with timepiece collectors.

What the Timepiece Community Thinks about Vacheron Constantin

Vacheron Constantin is one of the most under-appreciated brands in the market. The purists who love to have a vintage watch in their collection with a rich history recognize it as the brand that offers the best value. The competition for a vintage Vacheron Constantin is always intense at an auction. According to the experts, this is the best investment you can make considering the design, complications, heritage, and workmanship.

Best Selling Vacheron Constantin Watches

The competition for the best-selling Vacheron Constantin watch is dominated by the Patrimony and the Overseas line of watches. During the 1940s and 1950s, the movement of 4072 led the complicated watch market and is still very popular among the collectors. The 222 was launched to capture the sports steel watches market by the Vacheron Constantin, and this model was an instant hit in the market.

The Second-Hand Market for the Vacheron Constantin

Vacheron Constantin Kalista was sold at a whopping $11 million in a recent auction. This watch was made in 1979 after spending 6000-man hours. This watch is one of the finest products from the Vacheron Constantin with 118 emerald-cut diamonds. The limited-edition Tour de I’lle comes second in the list with a heavy price tag or over a million dollars. This unit was launched by Vacheron Constantin to celebrate its 250th anniversary. The modern Tourbillion and Overseas watches are also a good investment considering their ever-growing demand in the second-hand market.

Things to Notice Before You Sell Your Vacheron Constantin

There are a number of things you should consider before you go out and sell your Vacheron Constantin to get the deal best suited for your watch. The first thing to do here is to find them in box papers and the accessories for the assured authenticity of the watch to the buyer and it increases the price tag as well. Another thing to notice is the condition of your watch. Make sure the watch is cleaned and polished before you go out to sell it. The final price depends on the reference and the serial number as well. Be sure about these two numbers while you set up the final price. Another thing to consider is the merit and the demerit of various platforms where you might want to sell your watch. The local dealer is the easy way to sell it, but comes with some serious rounds of negotiations.
