History of TAG Heuer

Heuer was founded in 1860 by Eduoard Heuer. The company started as a small workshop but soon the business started filing patents for its innovations and started establishing a name for itself. In 1869, the manufacturer filed for a patent for keyless winding systems that featured a crown. The company produced its first chronograph in 1882 and followed it up by filing a patent for its famous oscillating pinion mechanism. The mechanism’s utility was so good that some watchmakers use it even today. In 1911, the Heuer came up with the first dashboard chronograph called “Time of Trip”. The innovative chronograph was used in airplanes and automobiles to measure the time of travel. In 1916, the watchmaker came up with “Micrograph”. This stopwatch was accurate to 1/100th of a second. Tag Heuer has been the official timekeeper of the major sporting event throughout its years of operation with its highly precise stopwatches. 1969 was the year when the brand launched the “Chrono-Matic” Calibre 11 movement which was a first self-winding movement featuring a micro-rotor. In the same year, Steve McQueen wore TAG Heuer Monaco in his movie “Le Mans”. In 1985, Heuer merged with race car instruments manufacturer TAG and became “TAG Heuer”. The brand remained an official timekeeping partner of Formula 1 from 1992 to 2003. In 2005, the watch manufacture produced Calibre 360 chronograph which was the first mechanical chronograph having an accuracy of 1/100th of a second. The company has continued to come up with innovations with high-end precision.
